Le Guess Who? festival completes lineup with Jlin, Pauline Oliveros, Lonnie Holley and more

One of our favourite European festivals has completed its lineup for 2016.

Le Guess Who? celebrates its 10th edition from November 10-13 in the picturesque city of Utrecht, The Netherlands, with a typically off-the-wall offering of jazz, rock, drone, footwork and more from around the world. Last year we sent Tayyab Amin to report on the four-day event, where he discovered an experimental music festival that’s far from lofty and joyless, with highlights from Kamasi Washington and Charlemagne Palestine.

This year’s bill features curated programmes and performances by Wilco, Savages, Julia Holter and Suuns. The final additions have now been announced and include Sunns’ choice Pauline Oliveros, a pioneer of experimental electronic music, recent FACT mixers Deerhoof, as chosen by Wilco, and spiritual free-jazz outfit Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids.

Other highlights include soul and hip-hop producer Adrian Younge, one-of-a-kind American artist Lonnie Holley, and Wrangler, a band featuring members of Cabaret Voltaire, Tunng and John Foxx.

Nigeria’s Les Filles de Illighadad will perform their meditative Tuareg music outside of Africa for the first time, while Slowdive/Mojave 3’s Neil Halstead, footwork innovator Jlin and ace Irish punks Girl Band also added to the diverse billing.

Check out the rest of the new additions on Le Guess Who?’s website.

The new additions join previously announced acts including Tortoise, Tim Hecker, Digable Planets, Junun (the ensemble led by Shye Ben Tzur and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood), Dinosaur Jr. and a rare performance from mystical jazz singer Patty Waters.

Day tickets and four-date festival passes are available now from the festival’s website, where you can check out the complete lineup.
