Edinburgh-based street artist Spaceboy and renowned East London studio Blac Ionica have teamed up with Red Stripe to paint Edinburgh red (and, er, presumably some other colours too).

The collaboration sees Spaceboy, part of the Rough Cut Collective of artists, transform shop shutters at Edinburgh’s Newhaven Harbour [above] into stop-motion video-art, broadcast from the street to the web. The intention is to “explore the D.I.Y. experimental studio culture that Jamaica fostered in the 1970’s when Dub and Reggae projected a visionary sonic force onto the world stage”, with help from Spaceboy’s graphic students from Edinburgh College of Art.

It’s one of a number of projects that make up Red Stripe’s Make Art on the Street initiative, a scheme which also includes a four-wheeled mobile art exhibition touring through Bristol, Leeds and London, as well as exhibitions in Manchester and more.
