For all the heebie-jeebies about falling revenues and collapsing models, the last twelve months has seen certain UK artists pulling off some extraordinary feats.

As MusicWeek report, The Stone Roses have made their way into the latest edition of the Guinness World Records tome for clocking up the fastest-selling rock concerts in UK history. The band’s three Heaton Park shows in June and July, which boasted a collective capacity of 220,000, sold out in 68 minutes.

Adele, meanwhile, notched up seven world records. Chart-destroyer 21 is named the biggest selling digital album in the UK and the US, with ‘Rolling In The Deep’ correspondingly knighted biggest selling digital track in the UK and the US. She is also the first UK artist, the first female and the fastest artist to clock up a million US digital sales. X Factor runts One Direction, meanwhile, became the first ever British act to have a debut album go straight to number one in the US.

As regards Stateside artists, Rihanna has become the best-selling digital artist of all time in the States. Whitney Houston also broke the record for having the most simultaneous hits on the UK singles chart by a solo female, clocking up 12 new entries on the UK chart following her death.

The Guinness World Records 2013 edition is due on September 13. If Lil B’s not in there for something, we’ll be mightily unimpressed.
