“The music is not ‘separate'”.

R. Kelly is scheduled to headline Orange County’s Soulquarius Music Fesival next year, but a new petition has gained traction asking to remove the R&B singer due to his history of sexual assault allegations.

“2017 is around the corner and many of us still have to look on in disgust as a proven predator, rapist, and serial abuser of young Black girls and women remains embraced in the world of music,” it reads.

The Change.org petition aimed for 1000 signatures which it has nearly acquired. It stressed that despite Kelly’s many iconic contributions to R&B, people must “Stop booking this man. Stop supporting this man”.

“Let’s send a message that the music is not ‘separate’ and the abuse of girls and women is *never* okay, no matter who you are or how many timeless ballads you’ve contributed to the world,” it reads.
