Queens of the Stone Age’s second album, the blistering Rated R, will be given the deluxe reissue treatment this year to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

The follow-up to the self-titled Queens of the Stone Age, Rated R marks, in FACT’s opinion, the band’s best album, and the point where Josh Homme et al achieved the perfect balance between QOTSA’s groove-focused “robot rock” aesthetic, the desert atmospherics of past project Kyuss and the hook-based pop that would become a big part of the band’s future. Songs like ‘Feel Good Hit of the Summer’, ‘Tension Head’ and particularly ‘In The Fade’, with Mark Lanegan on vocals, are close to unbeatable.

Interscope / UMe will reissue the album on August 2 (August 3 in the US) as an expanded double CD – no word on vinyl, unfortunately. The first disc comprises the original album, while the second features six B-Sides (‘Ode to Clarissa’, ‘You’re so Vague’, covers of Romeo Void’s ‘Never Say Never’ and The Kinks’ ‘Who’ll Be the Next in Line’, a live version of ‘Monsters in the Parasol’ and a new version of old cut ‘Born to Hula’), plus a recording of the band’s set at Reading 2000.

[Update: Craig Campbell Twittered us with a reminder that Rated R actually got a vinyl re-issue a few years back, as Rated X. Nice one.]
