I just think this record is perfect, so much so that I don’t even like to listen to it. We’ve been spinning it in the tour van, but I mostly dig it (sparingly) on my alone time. This record makes me feel like I should spend my time sitting Indian style on the bed, tongue out, playing my guitar along with the record, adding my own little parts and wishing I was in the band. I am amazed by the sound of this record. Most records, I listen to with musicians ears (which is a total drag). If you make a record that doesn’t make me sit there and go “how did they make that sound?”; if in listening to a record I can just dig, drift away or pretend like I just started playing guitar, then you’ve made a perfect record for GLJ.

The Dream – Love King

My Dream crush started on Love vs. Money and is still going strong. This stuff takes me back to the good bits of Florida. Skating rinks, Alicia, Alissa, Heather, Sandra, Kinsey, and the list goes on, all the little ghetto Florida girls I use to chase around. We had this club called Da Vibe back in FL, and they used to let mad underage kids in the place, and we went religiously every Friday. You better believe all the Dirty South that was in the place is all over these records. “Drop five stacks on that make up bag”… Florida I love to hate to love you…. I’m keeping my eyes on The-Dream, looking forward to the next one. One of the hardest things to put in a record these days is humour, everyone takes themselves too seriously. Love King is the perfect balance of hilarious and serious at the same time.

Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

I am glad I slacked on getting this end of the year list taken care of, because now I get to express my excitement for Kanye’s new record. I’m surprised, shocked and excited that I am finally into a Kanye record. I’ve listened to it cover to cover twice, so I can’t say much other than this is gonna be my record of the rest of the year. My holiday jams.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti – Before Today

I don’t have anything to say about this record other than I love it and it’s great and people should listen to it and I think they already are.
