On April 1, British rave granddads Orbital will release their first new album in eight years.

Titled Wonky (has there ever been a more appropriate title for an April 1 release, especially given the duo’s new press shot [above]?), the album features collaborations with goth pin-up Zola Jesus and UK rapper Lady Leshurr.

The idea for Wonky apparently sprang from Orbital’s recent live comeback. In the words of the group’s Phil Hartnoll, the tours were “really beneficial to our writing … Trying out tracks in front of audiences, listening through their ears, getting responses. That’s been a really good string to our bow.”

Wonky was recorded in Orbital’s Brighton base, then mixed in London with producer Mark ‘Flood’ Ellis, who in the past has worked with U2, PJ Harvey and Depeche Mode. “I mostly remember Flood from all the electronic stuff like Cabaret Voltaire, Depeche Mode and Renegade Soundwave”, explains Paul Hartnoll, the other half of Orbital. “He also has a good structural overview of music, because he’s not just a dance producer, he comes from a more holistic song viewpoint, which is how we like to approach it.”

Wonky‘s release will be immediately followed by a UK tour, which takes place on the following dates.
