FACT mix 305 is by Presk.

The Dutch producer/DJ, real name Pieter Willems, caught our attention thanks to his debut EP, Love Again, released eariler this year on Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen label.

When first introducing him to us, Daneeka described Presk’s sound as “a cross between whatyacallit and techno”; a tongue-in-cheek simplification perhaps, but one which does nail the essence of what makes his tunes stand out. The swing and accenting on his beats betrays the influence of UK garage and funky, but he’s also unafraid to lock things down into a taut, tracky 4/4 throb. Combined with his flair for moody synth hooks and bruising b-lines, it’s magic: just listen to the drop on ‘Devour’ and try not to bite your lip in approbation.

Since Love Again, Presk has released a split with Sines on Bristol’s Soul Motive, and most recently a 12″ for RAMP sub-label Fourth Wave; both records point towards a bright future for our man. HIs FACT mix is a punchy houe affair, drawing on productions from Huxley (‘Shower Scene’ – one of the tracks of the year, surely?), Szare, Nochexxx, Detroit Grand Pubahs, Guy Andrews, West Norwood Cassette Library and Kenny Dope.
