FACT mix 417 comes from an artist who featured high on both our Best Albums of 2013 and Best Tracks of 2013 charts, Mumdance.
Mumdance has been around the block, releasing on labels like Mad Decent, No Hats No Hoods and Southern Fried and putting in studio work with big hitters like Brodinski and Diplo. In the last eighteen months however, he really seems to have found his sound, drawing from his prowess as an engineer (you can watch a tour of his studio on FACT TV) and his early loves of hardcore and grime (he used to be Jammer’s DJ) to release his best music to date. Twists & Turns, a free mixtape released at the start of 2013, showcased the material Mumdance was sitting on, much of which is in the process of being released through labels like Keysound, Tectonic and Unknown to the Unknown. He’s found particular joy collaborating with Logos, whose lonely Cold Mission also ranked high in our end of year charts.
If Mumdance’s FACT mix is anything to go by, the well’s nowhere near dry. Opening with a succession of beatless tracks from Rashad Becker, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement and Rene Hell, plus a drone demo by Mumdance himself, once his mix starts pumping we’re treated to Mumdance collaborations with Pinch, Rabit and Logos, as well as cuts from grimy up-and-comers Wen, Inkke, Batu and Strictface. There’s even room for Enya.
