This was the week that World Cup 2010 really got underway. If we’re honest, little else has mattered to us. Maybe Sonar, actually, but even that’s a stretch.

Still, we did find the time and attention to deliver FACT’s Second Quarter Report – our pick of the 20 best albums released in the last three months, including laudable efforts from Emeralds, Ikonika, Washed Out and T++.

Elsewhere we delivered our verdict on the 2010 Mutek festival, and then, making plain the fact that football has temporarily usurped music as our salient obsession, we released our first set of alternative World Cup Top Trumps.

News-wise, we reported on upcoming releases and reissues from the likes of Brackles, Regis, The Bug, Dr Dre, Hercules & Love Affair, Klaxons, Arcade Fire and Olde English Spelling Bee.

FACT mixes this week came from Instra:mental, turning out a typically razor-sharp selection of dubstep and d’n’b minimalism, and Deetron, one of the best house/techno DJs on the planet.

In reviews, Oneohtrix Point Never and Drake’s latest LPs were praised to the skys; new releases from Kode9, Mr Majeeka and Hackman were also put through their paces.

Have a good weekend, and say a prayer for England as they take on Algeria tonight. Enjoy Sonar if you’re out there; those of you in London may wish to console yourselves at So Not Barcelona in the Big Chill Bar with Instra:mental and Addison Groove, or the Doldrums party at Plan B with Omar-S, Joy Orbison, Petchy, Floating Points and Source Direct.
