Jamie Smith of The xx unveiled his debut solo single, ‘Far Nearer’, on Xfm’s X-Posure show last night [via Pitchfork].

Smith also revealed that the track will be released by Numbers, the Glasgow label that’s currently home to the likes of Deadboy, Redinho and SRC.

“It’s a tune I made on one of our short breaks from touring and I was eager to make some new music,” he said. “I got a steel pan and made this track and it is coming out on Numbers Records in about a month or so.”

No news yet on whether there will be any B-sides to accompany ‘Far Nearer’; perhaps ‘Ytinifni’, ion first heard on The xx’s 2009 FACT mix, is in with a shout?
