The James Blake collaborator shares ‘Pyramid Lake,’ which couldn’t be more different than his last release.

Airhead’s impressive ‘Wait/South Congress’ single was sparse and deliberate, with a jagged, post-punk energy. ‘Pyramid Lake,’ the A-side of his next single, might share an ancestor with ‘Wait/South Congress,’ if that. The track is a claustrophobic collage built on a dub backbeat (complete with reggae fills), with an oscillating bassline and crescendo reminiscent of Willy Wonka’s twisted boat ride.

Stream ‘Pyramid Lake’ over at Pitchfork. ‘Pyramid Lake/Black Ink’ is out September 10 on R&S. Airhead will also be at Blake’s 1-800-DINOSAUR event at Plastic People tonight.
