Stream a new Major Lazer tune, featuring dubstepper Flux Pavilion

Diplo’s electro-dancehall experiment enlists the Circus Records co-founder for ‘Jah No Partial.’

While the song begins with a gentle reggae lilt and some Jah-toasting, it quickly descends into electro-dubstep territory, due in part to the inclusion of Flux Pavilion, the English producer whose anthemic ‘I Can’t Stop’ was sampled for Watch the Throne‘s ‘Who Gon Stop Me.’

Formerly comprised of Diplo and Switch, the latter has been replaced by Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. The “making of” video below details how the group acquired the acapella of dancehall legend Johnny Osbourne’s ‘Mr. Marshall’ for use on the track. Unfortunately, the sawtooth wobble and mechanical breakbeats annihilate the song’s island groove and the subtle tribal rhythms.

Major Lazer Frees The Universe drops on February 19 on Mad Decent/Downtown. The follow-up to 2009’s Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do also includes collaborations with Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Dirty Projectors’ Amber Coffman, Tyga, Dev, Wynter Gordon and Bruno Mars.
