V/VM prankster Leyland James Kirby is back with a creepy new full-length for shadowy Manchester imprint Modern Love.

Entitled Watching Dead Empires in Decay, it’s typically haunting stuff from Kirby as he channels the chipped nostalgia of his releases under the Caretaker moniker, and injects it with the warm, beating pulse of early Boards of Canada. It might not bear much resemblance to the label’s run of obscured techno releases from Andy Stott, Vatican Shadow and Demdike Stare, but anyone who has even the slightest interest in cloudy Northern soundscapes should take a look without delay.

The album is out now, and you can take a listen to the whole thing below.
