Editions Mego have announced upcoming double-vinyl reissues of Fennesz‘s Endless Summer and Emeralds‘ What Happened.
What Happened was originally released on CD by New York’s No Fun Productions in 2009. The release compiled synth/guitar improvisations recorded straight to tape in 2007-8, and counts among Emeralds’ most praiseworthy albums. Having issued the band’s latest album, Does It Look Like I’m Here, to great success earlier this year, Mego have created the first ever vinyl edition of the album, preserving the CD’s distinctive collage artwork. The record was mastered by James Plotkin and cut at Berlin’s Dubplates + Mastering; the first 300 copies are pressed on yellow vinyl.
Fennesz’s landmark 2001 album Endless Summer should require little introduction by now. One of the most influential albums of the last decade, it has been reissued several times on CD, but the new Mego release is the first vinyl edition in nine years. Included on the double-LP are two tracks, ‘Ohne Sonne’ and ’47 Blues’, which were previously only available on Japanese CD versions, as well as a new extended version of ‘Happy Audio’ exclusive to this release. The artwork is by Tina Frank; a subtle update of her original design.
Both reissues are available to pre-order now, and officially released on November 5.
