Practically the official poster boy for the hypnagogic pop trend, Ducktail’s two mostly instrumental albums from last year saw him occasionally dip his toe into the singer/songwriter realm, with mixed results. ‘Hamilton Road’ however, released this month on Olde English Spelling Bee, is one of his most accomplished displays as a vocalist yet.

Ducktails is still playing to his strengths here, with a shaky 4-track backing and lyrics about tree-houses and sitting by the water, but this perfectly sculpted, nicely baked 7” makes you think his next album for OESB, Arcade Dynamics, is going to be his best to date.
