Full details of Tectonic‘s ambitious, star-studded Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space project have been revealed.

The album, which features the titular dub engineer reworking tracks by the very best modern dubstep producers, will be released on November 29. The exclusive and unreleased source material for these twelve Scientist versions come courtesy of Shackleton, Guido, Pinch, Kode9 ft. Spaceape, Mala, Pinch ft. Emika (pictured), King Midas Sound, Loefah & Sgt Pokes, RSD, Cyrus, Armour (Roly Vex’d) and Distance. Oh, and the second disc includes all twelve originals, unmixed.

Scientist was born Hopeton Brown, and received his longstanding nickname after dazzling Bunny Lee and King Tubby with his preternatural studio prowess. After learning the ropes at Tubby’s Dromily Road studios in Kingston, he took up resiedence at Tuff Gong studios and released a number of classic albums for Greensleeves, including Scientist Rids The World Of The Curse Of The Evil Vampires and Scientist Wins The World Cup, and built up a reputation as one of the most ingenious and distinctive engineers on the planet.

A year in the making, Tectonic’s new compilation aims to make explicit the feedback loop that exists between dub roots and dub futurism, and is described by label boss Pinch as “definitely my proudest moment for Tectonic to date”.
