For FACT’s next Sunday Session at the Lock Tavern, we’re throwing a Halloween party with DJs from Chicago, Bristol and London on Sunday 31 October.

Representing Chicago, we’re stupidly excited about the London debut of DJ Spinn, a lynchpin of the city’s juke scene along with the likes of DJ Rashad and DJ Roc. His performance will mark one of the first chances for UK heads to hear this raw, innovative form of dance music played by one of its key artists. For an introduction to this sound, currently riding a wave of acclaim and proving more influential on worldwide dance music by the day, we’d point you to Bleep’s recent investigation or any of our recent posts about it.

Even better, he’s coming over with Chrissy Murderbot, the man behind Sleazetone Records and another of the artists pushing this exciting sound forward – though as a DJ, he plays a lot more. If you don’t know about Chrissy’s pedigree on deck then read this Guardian feature covering his Year in Mixtapes. With a single scheduled for release on Planet Mu next year, you can bet that he’s going to be everywhere soon.

As if that’s not good enough, we’ve got Bok Bok. Bok Bok is, of course, the man behind Night Slugs, arguably the label of the year so far on the strength of its game-changing releases by Mosca, Girl Unit, Jam City, Kingdom and more. Ever inspirational in his music policy, exemplified by the bookings he makes at his own club night, he’s one of the country’s best DJs, and we even heard a rumour he might be juking it out too.

Then there’s Hyetal. Recent years have seen dubstep move away from greyscale and into the colour zone, and rarely has that been demonstrated with more power than on this Bristolian’s thunderous new single ‘Phoenix’. One of the tracks of the year, it’s the perfect step forward from his vivid past releases ‘Pixel Rainbow Sequence’ and ‘Don’t Sleep’, and has received props from Pitchfork, RA, the lot. A keen collaborator, he’s been working with Peverelist, Julio Bashmore and Shortstuff, so you know he’s got dubplates for days.

Finally, we’ve got Ill Blu, arguably the best production duo in UK Funky. We’ve been wanting these guys to play one of our nights for ages, and when you look at their resume you’ll see why – they produced two of UK Funky’s best ever vocal cuts in Princess Nyah’s ‘Frontline’ and their remix of Shystie’s ‘Pull It’, and their instrumental tunes like ‘Blu Magic’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Meltdown’ (forthcoming on Numbers), and ‘Dragon Pop’ are just incredible.

Oh yeah, and the whole thing’s FREE. And we’re in the process of applying for a late license. You don’t get shit this good just trick or treating.
