There’s only really one way that a big festival can go from year to year, and that’s bigger.

The California weekender has just announced the line-up for its 2011 edition, taking place April 15-17, and its ridiculous. The big names are Kings of Leon, Interpol, Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, Mumford & Sons and The National, and more interestingly Kanye West, Robyn, Animal Collective, Duran Duran and PJ Harvey. The provision of dance music looks particularly healthy this year, with scheduled appearances from Joy Orbison, Kyle Hall, Green Velvet, DJ Zinc and Mount Kimbie ofsetting the far more prominently billed likes of Fedde Le Grand, Axwell and Paul Van Dyk.

But Coachella’s real strength is bands, and boy are they laying on a spread: Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Cold Cave, The Drums, Warpaint, Crystal Castles, Klaxons, !!!, HEALTH, Cults, Best Coast amd Lightning Bolt are just some of the highlights.

Fans of poppier/fluffier fare will be sated by sets from Elbow, Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Scissor Sisters, while a healthy hip-hop/R&B contingent is headed up by Lil B, Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu in addition to Kanye, and Wire and Big Audio Dynamite fill the requisite “old legend” slots.
