Emeralds play a rare UK gig this Saturday at Village Underground in London.

The night is hosted by BleeD music in collaboration with Stag & Dagger, and support comes from the wonderful Julianna Barwick, who is also playing a headline show of her own at the Slaughtered Lamb in Clerkenwell on Sunday.

If by now you’re not au fait with the brilliance of Emeralds, then we have to ask where on earth you’ve been. The young Ohio trio built up a huge underground following over the course of a few years before coming to the attention of a wider audience last year with the LP Does It Look Like I’m Here?, released through Vienna’s Editions Mego. In the last few months there’s been a new album and compilation of solo work from the band’s guitarist Mark McGuire, and their synth magus John Elliott has started his own Mego-affiliated label, Spectrum Spools, through which he’s released albums by US analogue fiends such as Forma, Bee Mask and his own Mist.

Emeralds’ own music is a heady proposition, heavily informed by German kosmische music – particularly that of Manuel Goettsching and Ash Ra – it’s as face-melting as it is melodic. They’re really quite stupendous live, and this gig comes with our highest recommendation.
