The first wave of line-up announcements for the 2011 Unsound festival has been made.

The festival, which takes place in Krakow, Poland, has fast become one of the leading lights in the international festival circuit, thanks largely to its consistently high quality, chaff-free programming. Last year’s outing boasted performances from the likes of Lustmord, Emeralds, Ben Frost, Shackleton, Raime, Goblin and the Moritz von Oswald Trio ; the 2011 edition takes place on October 9-16, and the bill already shaping up very nicely indeed.

The program is attached to the theme FUTURE SHOCK, taking Alvin Toffler’s classic futurist book from 1970 as its starting point and exploring ideas of science fiction in film, soundtracks and music.

Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti will headline in their much-loved Chris & Cosey guise, focussing on the pulsating, proto-techno pop developed across such classic albums as Songs of Love & Lust and Exotika. As anyone who saw their performance at London’s ICA earlier this year will attest, the duo are in the form of their lives.

Having appeared earlier this year at Unsound Festival New York, American composer and electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick will journey to Krakow to perform his seminal Silver Apples Of The Moon with Berlin video artist Lillevan.

Dylan Ettinger, recent FACT interviewee and mixer, and creator of one of 2010’s finest albums in New Age Outlaws: Director’s Cut, will perform live, as will Hype Williams, whose long-awaited Hyperdub 12″ is out this month.

On the dance front, Joy Orbison will be DJing and Dreadnought, Untold’s new collaboration with vocalist Samuel Chase, will perform live. Also live: Andy Stott, Kassem Mosse, Morphosis, KiNK, Addison Groove and Berlin’s mighty MMM. Now there’s a line-up that really speaks for itself.
