We almost resent the allure of the Unsound festival. Every year we think, maybe this time we’ll skip it, and then, sure enough, the line-up is gradually revealed to be pretty much unmissable. A trip to Krakow becomes, once again, essential.

It’s the same old story for 2011. The latest announcement confirms that Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer will be joined by pianist Christian Wallumrød to present a live version of their justly acclaimed Re:ECM album in the breathtaking surrounds of 16th century St Katherine’s Church. This show takes place on October 13, with an opening set from Norwegian dark ambient favourites Deaf Center.

Steve Goodman aka Kode9 will present a special project of his own, attending to the festival’s “Future Shock” theme with an audio-visual presentation produced in collaboration German video artist MFO. Their new work is an homage to the 1962 Chris Marker film La Jetée, which tells the story of a post-nuclear war time travel experiment and helped inspired the title of Kode’s debut album, Memories of the Future. The live premiere is on Friday 14th October at Krakow’s imposing Kino Kijów cinema. On the same evening, The Caretaker / Leyland Kirby will perform live, and Polish artist Jacaszek will unveil his new album Glimmer.

Raster-Noton’s Kangding Ray will perform live with his three-piec band, and the new synthetic psychedelia will be represented by Sun Araw, Hype Williams and Laurel Halo. Latest additions to the clubbier side of things are the mighty Objekt, Jam City and Jacques Green.

The above artists join the previously announced likes of Chris & Cosey, John Foxx, MMM, 2562, Andy Stott, Addison Groove, Space Dimension Controller, KiNK, Kassem Mosse, Ital, Dylan Ettinger, Morphosis, Sex Worker, Drednought and Cut Hands. More acts are still to be announced.
