Darkwave outfit The Soft Moon, whose self-titled debut LP was one of 2010’s finest, have announced details of a new four-track EP on Captured Tracks.

Entitled Total Decay, it will be released on, appropriately enough, Halloween (October 31).  Primarily the solo project of one Luis Vasquez, the ‘Moon swells to a three-piece for its live performances (which have earned some very favourable notices); their doomy, droning post-punk-derived music summons the more palatable aspects of muscular, synth-assisted gothic rock – if like us you have a soft spot for the Sisters of Mercy’s ‘Alice’ then you’ll probably already have lapped it up.

Judging from the EP’s title track, which you can download below, The Soft Moon’s sound has if anything grown tougher and more tightly knotted than before. American readers can catch them on tour on the following imminent dates:

9/10 Portland, OR – Rotture (Music Fest Northwest)
09/26 New York, NY – Webster Hall w/ Mogwai
09/27 New York, NY – Webster Hall w/ Mogwai
09/28 Philadelphia, PA – Starlight Ballroom w/ Mogwai
09/29 Washington, DC – 9:30 Club w/ Mogwai
10/1 Boston, MA – House of Blues w/ Mogwai
10/2 Montreal, QC – Il Motore w/ John Maus
10/30 Los Angeles, CA – The Echo (Part Time Punks) w/ Led Er Est
10/31 San Francisco, CA – The Independent w/ Led Er Est
