In retrospect, it seems like an obvious thing to do.

Oneohtrix Point Never’s Replica saw him foreswear the rippling, static synthscapes of his past work in favour of more straghtforwardly rhythmic loops. ‘Sleep Dealer’, in particular, lilts along with pleasing regularity, its cross-rhythmic patterns, implying a steady rhythm without ever actually settling on it. So why, until now, did nobody think to stick a kickdrum under it?

Fortunately, Klic’s edit of the track isn’t quite that simple: he grafts a neatly balanced techno backbone onto the track, not crowding the source material but infusing his drums with just enough grit to keep things interesting. You can download the edit below – we look forward to hearing somebody try it out on a dancefloor somewhere soon.
