Chris ‘Tropics’ Ward, once renowned as a woozy beatmaker, now ostensibly makes saccharine electronic pop.

Amidst the footwork snares and cerebral fare on the Planet Mu books, Ward’s earlier work stood out like a particoloured thumb. If debut LP Parodia Flare was too insubstantial to really set hearts racing, Ward’s follow-up EP is a smooth-as-honey electro-pop collection. Popup Cinema arrives on Svetlana Industries, and features three new disco-indebted songs. Kelpe’s remix of the title track offers a glitchy counterpoint to the glossy material surrounding it.
