The Aussie rapper shares the video for her Bildungsroman single ‘Work’.
Like Drake’s ‘Started From The Bottom’, ‘Work’ is about the 22-year-old rapper’s rise to prominence. Produced by Jessie J songwriters The Invisible Men and 1stdown from Mad Decent affiliates FKi, it’s a subdued trap-meets-snap tune about Azalea’s peculiar coming-of-age as a model who came to America in her teens before trying her hand at rap (“no money / no family / 16 in the middle of Miami”).
Directed by Jonas & François, the video is all trailer park elegance, dive bar lap dances, and a bit of ‘Bad Girls’-inspired ridin’ around and/or gettin’ it. The single is due out next week, with debut album The New Classic tentatively due out this Summer. Last year’s Trap Gold mixtape featured Diplo, Juicy J, and Sleigh Bells, among others.
