On a coast spotted with freaky beatmakers, Cali-baed artist Zeroh is ploughing a particularly unusual furrow.

Zeroh rolls with the Wedidit crew, who also number Shlohmo and D33J among their ranks. He’s an interesting rapper, possessing a groggy croak reminiscent of Yoni Wolf’s cLOUDDEAD-era material. His real trump card, however, is his production work, showcased to great effect on last year’s frazzled Tape collection. Lee Bannon’s crushed collages are a good point of comparison, although Edan’s tecnicolour productions also spring to mind.

Bred: A Dedication Tape is both longer and more varied than its predecessor: ‘Angelfootwork’ offers scrambled astral juke, ‘clocks’ plays like Oscar McClure with added colour, and ‘Pork Oil’ is industrial clutter on a Saul Williams tip. Kindred spirits Jeremiah Jae, Jonwayne and Ohbliv are among the guests; click below to stream.
