Roll the beats.

While dBridge has continued to herald a re-invigorated take on drum n bass via his Exit label, Bristol has also been pumping out a steady stream of new school junglistic flavours, most notably via the recent Sam Binga and Addison Groove EP for 50 Weapons as well as Binga’s collaborative EP with Om Unit for Exit records.

The latest offering from the city is a Bristolian three-way with Typesun, last seen opening for Ghostpoet on his recent UK tour, remixing Dr. Meaker featuring Romaine Smith ‘Don’t Think It’s Love’. As it happens Romaine Smith is Typesun’s main vocalist partner, and was also on the road with him on the recent UK tour.

For his remix Typesun has taken a similar approach to Sam Binga and Charlie Fracture, locking the groove at 170 while balancing its rolling, percussive elements against simple, spacious melodic fills, going for that less is more approach that’s been so central to much of the better drum n bass releases of recent years. Smith’s vocals add emotional weight to the intro, and the whole thing unfolds with a serious eyes-down vibe to it.

The original has already picked up support from Huw Stephens and Trevor Nelson, and it’s easy to see how this remix will likely be doing the rounds in the drum n bass and slow/fast world for a while.

You can pre-order the entire single on iTunes, featuring additional remixes.
