After his annus horribilis cooped up in a Samoan reform school, Earl Sweatshirt is doing very well for himself.

So far this year, Earl’s been pulled out by Flying Lotus at Coachella and delivered the stand-out verse on The OF Tape Vol. II. The young pretender has now been given the keys to the record industry. Exclaim report that Sony have gifted Sweatshirt a label of his own, titled Tan Cressida.

The imprint will be distributed through Columbia. Although Odd Future distribute their records via Sony’s RED imprint, a deal has been drawn up enabling Earl to use the OF logo on his own releases. Earl promises a less visceral release than 2010’s self-titled game changer. The change in tone is allegedly the result of Earl working with sexual abuse survivors whilst in Samoa (“A pivotal moment”, he says).

A spate of albums have already been announced for the label. Predictably, a solo Earl LP is in the works. Perhaps more interestingly, a Mick’n’Keef style collaborative album with best bud Tyler, The Creator is also on the way, titled EarlWolf. Earl is also set to collaborate with The Internet’s Matt Martians on a joint album.
