West Coast punks Rancid turn 20 with massive 46-record box-set

SAW 2, The Chronic, Mecca & The Soul Brother – a lot of great albums turned 20 this year.

Elsewhere, West Coast punks Rancid hit US drinking age: the group officially formed in 1991, with their debut album not arriving until 1993, but as Exclaim report, they’re treating 2012 as the year to celebrate their 20th anniversary (their first EP was ’92).

They’re doing so with one Hell of a box-set. Essentials represses all of the albums that Rancid ever released, spread across 46 7″ records, housed in a leather box. As well as the band’s seven studio albums, the set includes 2007 compilation B Sides and C Sides and an acoustic version of the group’s last album, Let the Dominoes Fall. 2,000 editions of the set have been produced, with 1,000 coming on red vinyl, 500 on white vinyl, and the last 500 on white vinyl with red splatter.

Pre-order details will be available from later today, via the Pirate’s Press website.
