Watch out, Foot Village – the drum giants are here.

Zach Hill has been a familiar name around these quarters in recent years, founding fury-rap combo Death Grips, drumming with math-rockers Hella and filling in for the likes of Wavves, Boredoms, and Marnie Stern. Janet Weiss played drums for Olympia titans Sleater-Kinney, band offshoot Wild Flag, and Stephen Malkmus And The Jicks. Matt Cameron, meanwhile, wins in the sales stakes: he’s paradiddled for Pearl Jam and, latterly, Soundgarden

Pitchfork are reporting that the trio have launched a new collaborative drums-only project, Drumgasm. The news was announced via the Facebook page of Weiss’ Wild Flag project:

“DRUMGASM is what happens when Matt Cameron, Janet Weiss, & Zach Hill set up together in a room & commence to EXPLODE. Record news tomorrow!”

Drumgasm is credited to Weiss/Cameron/Hill, and promises a bare-bones recording courtesy of “three people, three drum kits, some microphones and a reel of tape”. An unusually effervescent press release compares the record to Drummers Of The Societe Absolument Guinn, and promises a “Niagara Falls of sound.” Here’s hoping they don’t go the way of similarly puntastic Rourke/Hook/Mani combo Freebass. Portland label Jackpot Records will release the album in the near future.

Hill is currently masterminding and scoring a new feature film. Experimental hip-hop beatmaker Lee Bannon opened up about working with Hill in yesterday’s FACT interview.
