The Los Angeles experimenter delivers her most ambitious album to date.

Julia Holter has followed up her near-universally acclaimed Ekstasis with a cerebral and cinematic album inspired equally her home city’s fascination with celebrity and the Parisian novella and musical Gigi.

As she explained in an interview with FACT earlier this year, the record was built around stories written by others. “I kind of see my songs as at once in the world of those original stories and my own contemporary place,” she said, adding that she’s influenced by both the music of John Cage and celebrities like Kim Kardashian. Read what FACT’s Maya Kalev had to say about Loud City Song in her review.
