Cee Lo Green details "bare bones rock and roll album" Girl Talk and new Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley material

The singer promises “an onslaught of music this year”.

CeeLo Green is going full-throttle in 2013, promising a new solo album, more material from Goodie Mob and a possible Gnarls Barkley reunion, all while he’s acting as a judge on TV talent show The Voice.

Green’s forthcoming Girl Power LP, which he’s currently trimming down from “40 or 50 songs” to around 13, is a departure from the soulful pop of his previous hits, he hinted to Rolling Stone.

“Technically and sonically, [I’m] working with new sounds,” he said. “I could be all artsy-fartsy describing it, but to me this is bare bones rock and roll; which at heart is who I feel like I am. I feel like I’m a rock artist. I don’t feel like I’m a pop artist. And I’m alt rock. I’m indie rock. I’m punk rock. Because it comes from the pots and pans. It’s a lot of me, but I’ve got multiple personalities.”

He also revealed that his hip-hop group Goodie Mob have recorded enough material for another record, and will add tracks to the re-release of last year’s reunion album Age Against the Machine, due out this spring to coincide with his new reality show Cee Lo Green’s The Good Life.

Asked about the possible return of Gnarls Barkley, his hit-making project with Danger Mouse, he said he “didn’t realise the importance of [a new Gnarls Barkley album] or the anticipation for it until recently”, adding: “People are still interested to see what we could do. And so am I. Gnarls Barkley is an alter ego and something like an out of body experience.”
