Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins to have jail term appeal considered

Update: Watkins has lost the appeal, with judges ruling that his offences were “of such shocking depravity that they demanded a lengthy prison sentence”.

Ian Watkins is due to find out if he can launch an appeal to reduce the length of his jail term.

The Lostprophets singer was sentenced to 29 years in prison, with another six years on licence, after admitting a string of child sex offences last December.

A woman who was jailed alongside Watkins, who was the mother of a baby he abused, is also seeking a cut in her 17-year sentence. Both applications will be heard by three appeal court judges sitting in Cardiff, the BBC reports.

Further investigations into Watkins have been conducted by other police forces around the world, including in Germany and the United States, this year.

His former bandmates recently announced their new project with ex-Thursday singer Geoff Rickly under the name No Devotion, playing their first gig at Cardiff’s CF10 venue this week.
