It’s almost time for the Tauron Nowa Muzyka festival.
One of Europe’s most innovative electronic music festivals, Tauron Nowa Muzyka will take place against the industrial backdrop of the Katowice Coalmine on August 21-24. A wide-range of artists are set to perform at the festival, which also features stages hosted by Red Bull Music Academy and Hyperdub. Without further ado, here are our picks for its 10 must-see acts.
ACTRESS
With Darren Cunningham set to close a chapter on his Actress project (as soon as he’s done dropping surprise EPs and remixes), one should never miss an opportunity to see one of electronic music’s most crucial artists in the flesh.
AMP FIDDLER
The Detroit neo-soul troubadour is back on the road after some time off, and his performance is a must-see. At the very least, catch the guy that introduced Dilla to the MPC in person.
CAKES DA KILLA
When most festivals check their hip-hop box, they do so with relatively established fare like A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. Not so at Tauron: New York Cakes Da Killa is sure to ignite the crowd with his fiery mix of club beats and don’t-give-a-fuck attitude.
CHET FAKER
The festival’s opening show is headlined by Australian producer Chet Faker, whose lush, downtempo take on blue-eyed soul should bring some heat to the Katowice church in which he’s playing.
GUI BORATTO
In advance of his forthcoming fourth LP, the Brazilian techno mainstay heads to Poland for some Kompakt-approved big room beats.
KELELA
Fade to Mind’s resident chanteuse has spent the last 18 months playing to larger and larger audiences, leaving audiences breathless in her wake. Prepare to hear CUT 4 ME like you’ve never heard it before.
MOUSE ON MARS
The German duo have delighted (and confounded) listeners for more than two decades, and with a catalog so rich and varied, we never know quite what to expect from them.
NENEH CHERRY
The resurgent vocalist released her first proper solo record in 16 years, and she’ll continue the victory lap with regular collaborators RocketNumberNine.
NOZINJA
The Shangaan Electro boss can always be counted on for a kaleidoscopic performance of the South African sound. Throw on your dancing shoes and get ready for some cardio — Nozinja plays in frenzied 190bpm territory.
