Beyoncé to launch a streetwear brand with Topshop

Beyoncé is teaming up with UK fashion giant Topshop to launch a streetwear brand.

The temporarily titled Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd., a branch of the singer’s Parkwood business empire, will launch as a 50-50 joint venture as soon as next autumn, according to fashion news hub WWD.

The line will include clothing, footwear and accessories for dance, fitness and sports, with technical performance characteristics well as what fashion types are calling an “ath-leisure side”, “targeting women who go to yoga or the health club, as well as those who just want to look as if they do.”

Topshop’s owner Sir Philip Green emphasised that the deal wasn’t a one-off celebrity endorsement. “This not a collaboration. This is about building a brand and building a business — a separate, proper business, with separate overhead and a separate office,” he told WWD.

Green plans to hire two designers — one on the sports side who understands the technical aspect of athletic wear, and one fashion designer. The collection will be distributed to Topshop stores and topshop.com as well as other retailers like Nordstrom, which operates Topshop concessions.
