FKA twigs in legal battle over name with band called The Twigs

The same band that led to Tahliah Barnett adding “FKA” to her name, now says that’s not enough.

Tahliah Barnett, best known as FKA twigs, may have to change her name due to an ongoing legal battle, Billboard reports.

The issue here is sisters Linda and Laura Good have performed since the ’90s as The Twigs and own a copyright on the name. Barnett initially reached out to the band in 2013, offering $15,000 for the rights to use the name, but an agreement couldn’t be reached. This resulted in the FKA, or “formerly known as,” in Barnett’s now iconic moniker. The Goods then sought to get a restraining order against Barnett, but the judge denied the motion because it was brought just a few hours before the British singer was scheduled to take the stage.

According to the report, Barnett was sued by the Goods in April of 2014 and the struggle has continued in the present. Barnett’s label, Beggar’s Group, has argued that the name change is a similar and fair move that bands such as Dinosaur Jr. (FKA Dinosaur) and Blink-182 (FKA Blink) made in the past.

Representation for the Goods has said the situation won’t be fully resolved until Barnett enters a personal use agreement, which would mean paying a sum they see fit for the rights to use the name.
