A video captures Cedric Bixler-Zavala performing in Antemasque throwing a kettle of water into the crowd, which fans say left them burned.

Even though prog rockers The Mars Volta officially split in 2013, most of the key members returned from their breakup fairly quickly by forming the new band Antemasque. Their dedicated fan base carried over, but they may have lost some support in New Zealand after allegedly burning some of their fans with scalding hot water at Westfest in Auckland.

In a new report from The New Zealand Herald, video has surfaced of Cedric Bixler-Zavala spontaneously tossing a plastic kettle of water into the audience. According to some fans it was boiling hot and one shared a photo of the burn to prove it. He said Zavala seemed agitated throughout the set and also threw speaker stacks, packing cases, and a mic stand.

No comment has come from the band yet, but watch the video of it happening and look at a picture of the fan’s burn below (they’re not gross, we promise).
