Mike Porcaro, bassist for Grammy-winning rock band Toto, died on Sunday aged 59.

The veteran musician passed away following a long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Porcaro joined his brothers Steve and Jeff as a member of Toto in 1984, replacing David Hungate after the release of Toto IV.

Porcaro played bass in the band on a number of albums and world tours, from 1984’s Isolation up until the mid-2000s, when declining health forced him to stop touring.

Toto keyboardist and Porcaro’s brother Steve confirmed the news on Facebook, writing, “Our brother Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:04 AM last night at home surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, my brother.”

“My brother Mike Porcaro is now at peace,” added Toto guitarist Steve Lukather on Twitter. “I will miss him more than I could ever put into words. My deepest love to the family. God Bless.” [via Rolling Stone]
