Grab a 60¢ can of beer while you’re at it.

Hardcore fans speak in awed whispers of those early block parties where hip-hop was born, but it’s rare we get a chance to hear exactly how it went down in 70s New York.

SoundCloud user Hass718 of the Jammininthepark community has shared this recording of a summer park jam, believed to have been recorded at P.S. 127 in Elmhurst, Queens, in 1977.

With the DJs stopping every few minutes to remind dancers where to grab a can of Colt 45 for 60¢, they mix gems from Lamont Dozier, Loleatta Holloway, Rose Royce and more. Stream it below for a hit of retro sunshine and check out the guy on the mic at 19 minutes. [h/t Joe Muggs]
