Hardcore fans speak in awed whispers of those early block parties where hip-hop was born, but it’s rare we get a chance to hear exactly how it went down in 70s New York.

SoundCloud user Hass718 of the Jammininthepark community has shared this recording of a summer park jam, believed to have been recorded at P.S. 127 in Elmhurst, Queens, in 1977.
