Another London music landmark could disappear soon.

A petition has emerged urging Camden Council in London and local politicians to save AIR Studios, a legendary recording complex founded by Sir George Martin, producer for The Beatles, in 1969.

The studios relocated to Hampstead Heath in north London in 1991, inside the Lyndhurst Road Congregational Church, a Victorian building dating back to the late 1800s.

The studios are under threat from nearby redevelopment work for a private property that would put them out of business for up to six months, leading to a potential full time closure due to loss of income.

AIR Studios is one of Britain’s premier scoring facilities, handling movie scores, classical music and mainstream recording artists including Coldplay, Muse and Sir Paul McCartney. Scores for the likes of Interstellar and The Hunger Games were recorded at AIR.
