All purple everything.

Despite a forty-year career and a reputation as one of modern music’s true geniuses, Prince has never performed a solo show. Until last night, when he kicked off the Piano & A Microphone residency at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The show took place in front of an audience of 1,200 people, some who had come from as far away as Japan, in an intimate setting that included purple sofas, purple pillows, and a purple piano. According to Rolling Stone, Prince performed in purple pajamas on a candle-lit stage.

Prince performed two sets, covering his lengthy career and including songs from each of his 10 albums. The sets were interspersed with what appears to be a sort of live autobiography as Prince recounted key moments from his life and how they impacted him.

All of which sounds like exactly the kind of night you’d want to have with Prince.

You can read reviews of the show at Rolling Stone and the Star Tribune, and see a photo of the performance space below. [Via Consequence of Sound]
