Fans outside the late star’s home were also given special gifts this weekend.

Prince was cremated in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family yesterday, his publicist has confirmed. The remains of the singer, who died on Thursday at his Paisley Park complex in Minnesota, will be stored privately by his family.

Though his funeral was private, an “announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration” of Prince’s life, his family added in a statement.

Fans have continued to flock to the late star’s home this weekend to pay their respects according to Associated Press, who report that fans have been handed “round purple boxes” containing colour photos of Prince and a black T-shirt with “3121” printed on them – a nod to his 2006 album of the same name.

Tributes to Prince have also continued over the weekend, with Saturday Night Live devoting their entire runtime to his life, legacy and performances on the show. Watch Jimmy Fallon below explain what Prince meant to him.

Bruce Springsteen, meanwhile, opened his Brooklyn show on Saturday with a cover of ‘Purple Rain’.

On Friday it was announced that Prince’s autopsy was complete, and that results of an investigation into his death are likely to take up to four weeks.
