More wavy bangers from the Diagonal camp.

Diagonal is to release an album from Japanese producer Kouhei Matsunaga, better known as NHK yx Koyxen.

According to the label, Doom Steppy Reverb features seven tracks of “chewy garage techno” that “tread the line between novel and nasty.”

In a press release, Diagonal says: “As bonkers as the narwhal-cavorting-with-a-rhino artwork, Doom Steppy Reverb is the skizzo brother of new beta, a 3D spec’d rally thru some of NHK’s darkest, most driven material, done with a gangster swang in deft minor key arrangements that hint at a certain rudeboy vulnerability.”

Doom Steppy Reverb is the producer’s second release for the label operated by Powell and Jaime Williams after an EP last year. He’s previously appeared on labels such as PAN, Raster-Noton and Skam, creating experimental sounds, fractured techno and left-of-centre acid warehouse bangers as far back as 1992.

The album is released on July 29 and the digital version comes with two extra tracks. It’s the latest album of a strong run for Diagonal, which has released killer albums from Not Waving and Elon Katz this year.

Earlier this week Diagonal founder Powell reveald details of his own debut album, Sport.
