A dream come true for the director.

Variety reports that Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve is in early talks to direct a Dune reboot. “A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt Dune, but it’s a long process to get the rights, and I don’t think I will succeed,” he said back in September.

He is now discussing taking on the project with Legendary Entertainment, who struck a deal with Frank Herbert’s estate to the rights to novel. Their output could include a film franchise, as well as a TV series, Variety says.

Villeneuve recently said he “loves sci-fi” and has “two more ideas” he is interested in pursuing, on top of, perhaps, even more Blade Runner sequels.
