The director says the singer’s family won’t agree to it.

Martin Scorsese is currently promoting passion project Silence, but in a new interview he revealed he’s given up on another long-awaited one — his Frank Sinatra biopic.

“We can’t do it!” Scorsese told The Toronto Sun. “I think it is finally over. They (remaining members of the Sinatra clan) won’t agree to it. Open it up again and I’m there!”

Scorsese first became attached to the film in 2009, but even then conflicts arose due to the family’s difficulty in agreeing on how to tell Sinatra’s story. Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Chabon was attached to the script as recently as last fall, but indicated it wouldn’t happen (“the usual” as he put it).

“Certain things are very difficult for a family, and I totally understand. But, if they expect me to be doing it, they can’t hold back certain things,” Scorsese said. “The problem is that the man was so complex. Everybody is so complex — but Sinatra in particular.” [via Pitchfork]
