Turkish authorities believe they have found the right culprit.

The gunman who killed 39 people on New Year’s Eve in Istanbul at Reina nightclub has been arrested. The Guardian points out that he is an Uzbek national named Abdulkadir Masharipov and he was captured today in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul.

According to The Guardian, dozens of people have been arrested and questioned in connection to the shooting, but this is the first person being named as the shooter. Concrete details about Masharipov’s background and motive have not been disclosed, but ISIS has previously claimed responsibility for the attack, citing the Turkish military’s involvement in Syria as the inciting incident.

After being arrested and named as the shooter, Masharipov confessed to the shooting at Reina, the The New York Times reports. Officials describe the interrogation as “very new” and they intend to glean more information about who helped in the attack and how going forward.
