The cult comic book hero returns to screens.

After spawning two cult films, Judge Dredd is headed to television screens with a new series in development, BBC reports.

Titled Judge Dredd: Mega City One, the series will follow the dystopian lawman who holds the powers of judge, jury and executioner. The title character was previously portrayed by Sylvester Stallone in the often derided 1995 film and by Karl Urban in the more accurate and acclaimed 2012 adaptation, Dredd.

Though the cast will be announced at a later date, studio IM Global has called the series “big-budget” and will team up with the original comic publisher Rebellion, a first for any Dredd adaptation. The series will be executive produced by Mark Stern (who worked on SyFy’s Battlestar Galactica) who called it “one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become and more relevant with age.”

“We’re very excited to be beginning the journey to get more of Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One on the television screen,” said Rebellion owners Jason and Chris Kingsley. “Thanks to the legions of fans who have kept up pressure on social media, and a lot of background work and enthusiasm, we aim to make a big budget production that will satisfy both our vast comics audience and the even greater general screen-watching public.”

Dredd star Karl Urban has remained a vocal supporter of further adaptations and expressed interest in playing the role again. Earlier this year he donned Dredd’s iconic helmet again to wish a happy birthday to 2000 A.D., the comic anthology where the series first appeared.
