When Wedidit chief Shlohmo steps on the remix, it’s usually not with the intention of making his source material cheerier.

Check his recent résumé: Jeremih’s gently sinister ‘Fuck You All The Time’ became, well, substantially more sinister; LOL Boys’ breezy ‘Changes’ was given a tumultuous overhaul; Flume’s ‘Sleepless’, once bright as a button, was reimagined as one for the insomniacs.

Little Dragon (who, you’ll remember, appeared and subsequently disappeared from Big Boi’s ‘Mama Told Me’) are the latest to sample Shlohmo’s bad medicine, and, once again, he brings the shade. Yukimi Nagano’s vocals are swathed in feedback and twisted into a slo-mo baritone. The instrumental, meanwhile, sets a spooky Carpenter synth drone against the chatter of hi-hats. The best remixers convert shit into sunshine; Shlohmo turns ‘Sunshine’ into an equinox. [via Hypetrak]
