FACT mix 571: Peggy Gou

A newcomer brings us toe-warming house for the changing seasons.

This time last year we’d never even heard of Peggy Gou, but with three records under her belt in 2016 – including the addictive slow-burner ‘Day Without Yesterday’ on a 12″ for Phonica White – she’s quickly marked herself out as one to watch.

Born in South Korea, Gou moved to London as a teenager and started DJing and producing while studying at the London College of Fashion. Her early forays into the studio were overseen by Esa Williams, the South African DJ and producer who co-runs the Highlife label and club night with Auntie Flo, but since Gou’s relocation to Berlin she’s found a mentor in Daniel Wang, a house and disco authority with a similarly globe-spanning resume. Her fourth release of the year, Seek For Maktoop, is right around the corner, dropping on 12″ and digital via Technicolour on October 14.

Gou’s FACT mix features a few of our longterm faves (Legowelt, Lone) alongside some fresh finds (HBNG, Dona), travelling from deep and dreamy house to neon euphoria via an ur-text of techno (pun intended) with UR’s ‘Base Camp Alpha 808’.

Catch her in the club across Europe throughout autumn, including a Numbers party at Glasgow’s SWG3 this Friday.
